Wilbur L. "Bud" Atkinson, 87, of Kansas City, Kan., passed away on January 10, 2009, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at White City Christian Church, White City, Kan. Burial will be in White City Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Bud was born in Latimer, Kan., and had lived in the Kansas City area since 1954. He was a serviceman for Heathwoood Oil Company for 25 years before retiring in 1983. Bud was a tank instructor for the U.S. Army during WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Mildred "Peg" Atkinson, and a son, Donald L. Atkinson. Survivors include his wife Leah M. Atkinson of the home; son Terry Atkinson, Manhattan, Kan.; two daughters: Peggy Butterfield and Penny Taylor, both of Kansas City, Kan.; three sisters: Lois Lee Gregoire and Gladys Guerber, both of Surprise, Ariz., and Juanita Dunkel, Salina, Kan., nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
