The Lamar County Echo, August 1978. 'Mrs. Jim Samples, 84, formerly a resident of Leisure Lodge Nursing Home, died in a local hospital. Graveside services were held Friday at Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Martin officiating. Gene Roden's Sons, Directors of Funerals had charge of arrangements.
Millie Manners Samples was born December 7, 1893, the daughter of Stokes Manners and Betty Jane Ray Manners. She married Jim Samples in 1952 who preceded her in death in 1956.
Survivors include three sons, Homer Shannon of Paris, Ed Shannon of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Leroy Shannon of Roanoke; a daughter, Viola Wood of Irving; twenty-nine grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Frank Walton and a daughter, Haskell Bird'.
