Census: 1920, age 12 Jefferson City, Cole county, Missouri with parents, older sister, aunt & niece, at 306 Water street, father fireman at round house, mother laborer in box factory.
Ilda lived in Independence, Montgomery county, Kansas, (where her father is noted in 1935 on 1940 Federal census), before she, husband & young son moved to Carthage, Jasper county Missouri while the United States was at the ending of a major depression. Many other men roamed the countryside, were looking for work, but "Art" was a cautious man. First, in Carthage he built a gas station, the 18’x11’ office at the front of the front building. He put in two gas pumps, just in case his motor court plans did not work out. He called his gas station the "Red Horse". Then, he built the first four rooms just behind the gas station of their Boots Court, renting at $2.50 per night, a place which at least once had Clark Cable, Gene Autry & Mickey Mantle as guests to name but three, on west side of The Jefferson Highway, located at 107 south Garrison avenue, that portion which was known as the "Crossroads of America", being portion of "The Mother Road", Route 66 , once sharing Garrison avenue, south of Central avenue, for the four city blocks, to Oak street until realignment straight west on Central, in the late 1950s. I first met her with "Bob" when she had a 1941 black, slick back, two door, Buick special sedan, picking him up at Carthage High School.
Some years later, following end of World War II, in 1946 after "Bob" was honorably discharged from the United States Army Air Force, "Art" & son "Bob" built the Boots Drive-In & Gift Shop across Garrison avenue, on northeast corner, of Second street which. Bob's mother, Ilda, (was divorced from Arthur in 1941) was the cashier. "Bob", regretted his father's guiding him to later own & operate it for fourteen years, with partner C Jude Arney, while married to Lois living, 1st with his mother at 215 north Maple, then 1800 Hazel street, lastly in the well built McElroy home at 1301 Grand avenue, raising a family before removing to Tulsa, Tulsa county, Oklahoma in 1958, living at 3635 Lakewood, 5782 Harvard court, and where he died in 2014 living at 6840 south Toledo avenue.

Ilda Boots, 102, Glenpool, Okla., formerly of Carthage, passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, in the Glenpool Health Care Center, Glenpool, Okla.
Mrs. Boots was born Nov. 25, 1906, in Bagnell, Mo., the daughter of Folly E. Caldwell and Metta (Quinn) Caldwell. She married Arthur Boots, on Nov. 14, 1924, in Jefferson City, Mo. He preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Robert A. Boots, Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arthur and one sister, Irene Baxter.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7, in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Minister Bob Lyttle will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo.
