....Prom Full Major on 30 Jun 1862. Commissioned an officer in U.S. Volunteer Paymaster's Dept Inf Reg on 30 Jun 1862. Mustered out on 10 Feb 1865.

At 2:30 a.m. on 14 October 1864, Mosby's Guerillas attacked at military train two miles east of Kearneysville, West Virginia. Aboard that train was David and fellow Paymaster Major Moore, with a payroll of $173,000 to pay General Sheridan's soldiers. Both Paymasters and 18 other soldiers were taken prisoner and sent to the Confederate Military Prison at Danville, Virginia. David died at the military prison on 10 February 1865.

RUGGLES. -- At the Danville, Va., Military Prison, on Friday, Feb. 10, 1865, Major D. Colden Ruggles, Additional Paymaster United States Army.

The funeral will take place at 1 1/2 P.M., on Wednesday, 10th inst., from Calvary Church, Fourth ave. The friends of the family are invited to attend, without further notice.

The remains will be taken to Nyack, New York, for interment.
