R.M. Abercrombie - One of the leading industries of St Joseph was the marble and cut stone industries. It was said that no one was due more praise for the artistic monuments that graced the homes of the dead - the cemeteries throughout this section of the country and the magnificent cut stone fronts and stone works which adorn the most substantial structures, that the firm Abercrombie Stone Company, the general agent and manager being Mr. R. M. Abercrombie.
He was one of the leading members of the I.O.O.F (Internal Order of the Odd Fellows) organizations in the city and state, having filled all the offices in the local lodge to which he belonged.
He was a Republican and in 1893 (and 1895), he was chosen to be a member of the City Council from the Fourth Ward. He watched over the interests of the city and his constituents with such sagacity that he was called the watch dog of the treasury.
Mr. Abercrombie married Miss Rosaline M. Bailey of Caldwell County, Missouri.
