Dorothy Grau Schmidt, age 96, died January 2, 2009 at Hoosier Village, near Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born September 19, 1912 in Essex, Ontario, Canada to the late Oscar and Geneva Johnson Grau.

Dorothy was a member of Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zionsville and a former member of St. James Lutheran Church in Lafayette. She was also a longtime member of the Lafayette Art Club and loved to paint, quilt, and play the piano.

She was the administrative assistant to Al Stewart, director of the Purdue Glee Club, when she met her late husband S. Edgar Schmidt, a professor of German. They were married on September 3, 1947.

Dorothy is survived by her son James and his wife Patricia, grandchildren Emily and Mark Schmidt and Stephen Storey and his wife Alexandria McKenna. She is also survived by her sister Anna Kaser.
