There is a Hemphill Cemetery near the fire tower in Fall Creek Falls State Park at Bradden Knob/ Braden's Knob just off the Fire Tower Road. It is a small cemetery with just seven people in it. It has a wrought iron fence around it.

Samuel Corydon Hemphill fought for the Union during the Civil War and was wounded at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee. He was also the Postmaster at Braden's Knob, briefly. Before that, while living in Mecosta County, Michigan, he served as a Justice of the Peace and a school inspector.

Samuel and his sons owned a lot of timberland in Tennessee and Mississippi. He had a saw mill at Braden's Knob.

Samuel had two wives: 1) Melissa Hukill, who he married on 19 Mar 1844 in Logan County, Ohio (died 14 Sep 1870); and 2) Mary Doney, who he married on 6 Aug 1871 in Mecosta County, Michigan. Both ladies had been married once before they married Samuel, and he helped them raise children by the previous husbands. He also had children of his own by both wives. Melissa had been married to William White and Mary had been married to Mr. Aldrich.

Samuel was the son of John Lewis Hemphill and Eleanor (Rittenhouse) Hemphill.
