Corporal US Army Korea, son of Martin Tahtinen and Segrid Eileen Hitila of Ontonagon MI. He was the second son of five boys. After his service in the Army, Calvin settled in Detroit MI, in the Finnish enclave near Woodrow Wilson. Calvin worked in several factory employments in the city before settling in to a job in the heat treat department of a spring company, where he stayed for over thirty years. It was in Detroit that he met his future Bride Kathleen Fryer who he married May 5,1954. Together they had two daughters, Monica and Diane. Calvin was a devoted family man and adored his girls, and later his four grandchildren. He was a loyal, honest, hardworking man and few had a bad word to say about him. Calvin was the king of the one liners, and his dry sense of humor would keep you chuckling long after the joke was delivered. Calvin was an animal lover, and could usually be talked into adopting any stray that came the families way. Calvin enjoyed walking in the woods, going fishing and taking Sunday drives. Calvin loved his family and enjoyed taking his vacations in Ontonagon where he could visit with his mother and brothers. He was a great water lover and always wanted to stay near Lake Superior. When his daughters got married Calvin became a kind and non judgmental father in law, who never interfered but was supportive and generous to their new families. Calvin was a man of few words but what he did say always mattered, He spoke the truth, and it doesn't get much better than that. He is remembered with much love and laughter.
