Phineas Peck was born in Henderson County, Illinois near Terre Haute to James and Helen Johnson Peck. Phin first went to Wisconsin and worked in the lumber business. His aunt Mary Johnson Otis lived there and he became very close to his cousin Chrissie with whom he corresponded for many years. He came to Nebraska with John Pritchard in September of 1885 and helped John prepare a sod house and other buildings for John and Martha after their marriage in February of 1886. Martha was Phineas's sister. Phin did a lot of buying and selling of land in the area. Later he lived with Martha and helped rear the younger children. After Martha's death, he continued living with the Robert Pritchard family until his health required him to move to Kearney. All of the Pritchard children learned to drive his blue pick up and waited for his weekly return from Litchfield with fruit and candy hidden under the seat. Phineas died the same week that Brian Pritchard was born. He was survived by all the nieces and nephews he helped rear. He was like a grandfather to the Robert Pritchard children.

Survivors include one brother, Cassius Peck, of Panora, Iowa, and a number of nieces and nephew.
The Rev. D. S. Bornemeier will have charge of the funeral services with burial at the Pleasanton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Henna Bacus, Charles Bacus, Vene Bacus, all of Litchfield, Art Lammers, Clifton Bell and Bill Lammers, all of Pleasanton. Morgan Funeral Home of Pleasanton has charge of arrangements.
