This is where Bill met Dorothy Anne Nauyok who he would later marry in 1954. Bill's hobbies and sports included airplanes as a private pilot, football as captain of the Civic Memorial High School team with Dorothy as his Homecoming Queen, fishing and traveling.
Bill graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Marketing in 1957, and was commissioned an Infantry 2LT, serving in the US Army Reserve for about 10 years.
Bill Cain was a salesperson for many years working for Bethalto Lumber Company, Coca-Cola, selling roofing products for Conwed and GAF. Ultimately, he founded his own Real Estate agency with Dorothy in the mid-1970s, Cain & Cain Real Estate of Bethalto, IL.
Deciding that they may as well live where they love to vacation, Bill and Dorothy moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1982, after their youngest child finished high school. They immediately found friends and a church home at First United Methodist Church where Bill served as an usher for many years as well as attending Sunday school and helping to found First Company Theatre, often playing the role of Joseph in the Christmas Pageant.
Bill served as branch manager of Walker & Co. Real Estate and later REMAX Properties, where Dorothy still works as a sales agent. Bill Cain loved to travel and enjoy the outdoors with his family and friends.
A favorite Christmas camping spot to take the family was the Florida Keys. Bill, his brothers, and their sons and other family friends would frequently take winter canoe trips on the Current River in Missouri.
And most years Bill would take the family on a summer vacation visiting the historical sites and treasures of America's National Parks and monuments from coast to coast in the family station wagon.
Bill is survived by his wife Dorothy, son Bret and daughter-in-law Cindy (Ruskiewicz) of O'Fallon, IL; son Scott and daughter-in-law Julie Cain of Edwardsville, IL; son Craig and daughter-in-law Nadine (Morris) of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Carla and son-in-law Steve Wiegers of Lansing, KS; seven grandchildren; two brothers, David Cain of Medora, IL and Gary and wife Karen Cain of Worden, IL. Bill was preceded in death by parents Carl William Cain, Sr. and Valerie Opal (McDaniel) Cain, and one brother, Donald, who died in childhood.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Company Theatre, First United Methodist Church. A Memorial Service will be held on December 22, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. First United Methodist Church, 420 North Nevada Ave., Colorado Springs.
Bill will rest in the First United Methodist Church columbarium Reflection Garden.
