Albert E. Harshbarger, 88, of Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, died Friday, January 14, 1994 at 11:05 p.m. at Wabash Skilled Care Center, Wabash. He had been a resident of Timbercrest since 1978, coming from Bainbridge, Indiana.
Mr. Harshbarger was born April 15, 1905 to John A. and Lillus (Lidikay) Harshbarger. He married Olive M. Shambaugh August 22, 1931 in Wabash, Indiana; she preceded him in death September 14, 1988.
Mr. Harshbarger was a member of the North Manchester Church of the Brethren, a lifetime member of the Manchester Lions Club, member of Phi Delta Kappa Educational Fraternity, and was a trustee of Manchester College for several terms. He received a distinguished Alumni Award from Manchester College.
He was a high school math teacher, principal and coach for 45 years, retiring in 1970. He coached a sectional championship at Monitor High School in Tippecanoe County in 1943. He also held many Church of the Brethren pastorates in Central Indiana. He was a 1928 graduate of Manchester College, and received his master's degree from Purdue University.
Survivors include two sons - Richard B. Harshbarger of North Manchester and William R. Harshbarger of San Jose, California three grandsons - Tom, Jon and Mikel Harshbarger and two granddaughters - Lisa and Amy Harshbarger.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, January 18, at Timbercrest Chapel with Pasters Susan Boyer and Bruce Hostetler officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester Memorials are to the Albert and Olive Harshbarger Memorial Scholarship Fund at Manchester College.
