Sgt. Evan Minnear of Anderson, Indiana grew up in Indiana and was a 2002 graduate of Anderson High School where he wrestled and ran cross-country. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed weight lifting and body development. Evan joined the Army in January 2003 and arrived at Fort Richardson in October 2005. He returned from a 15-month tour of duty in Iraq in November 2007 and from a month of field training at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California in November 2008. The last time he was home was September 2006, right before he went to Iraq. He served as an M.P. while in Iraq. He had signed up for another four years and had planned a long military career. He loved the outdoors and ran and hunted while stationed in Alaska. Evan was shot as he tried to stop another man who was firing a gun outside the Woodshed Bar in Anchorage. He later died at a hospital. He was 24. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Edith Eckstein Evans.
