Mr. and Mrs. James Duffy, Brunswick, Ohio, were notified on May 28, 1969, that their son James P. "Pat" Duffy, 20, was killed in action in Vietnam on May 25, 1969. Sgt. Duffy had been in Vietnam, between Saigon and Cambodia, for two months. He was with the First Infantry Division, First Battalion, First Platoon, in the U.S. Army. According to reports, he was on patrol when the enemy was met, and Sergeant Duffy was killed during a fire fight.

Sergeant Duffy was a 1967 graduate of Brunswick High School and had participated in wrestling, football and the band. After graduation, he worked for Ohio Bell Telephone Company until he entered the U.S. Army in May, 1968.

Previous to his Vietnam tour, he had been stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky; Camp Polk, Louisiana; Fort Benning, Georgia, where he received Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) training; and Fort Louis in Seattle, Washington.

Sgt. Duffy was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Duffy, and his two sisters, Colleen and Rita. Carlson's Funeral Home in Brunswick, Ohio, was in charge of the arrangements. Friends called at the Carlson Funeral Home in Brunswick, Ohio, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 6-8, 1969. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 9, 1969, at 10 a.m. in St. Ambrose Church in Brunswick, Ohio. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio.
