HOUSTON, Texas?Oscar Emery Armstrong Sr., 86, of Galena Park, Texas, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008.

He was born Dec. 17, 1921, in Olustee, Okla. He was a mechanic at Baash-Ross Tool Co., retired from Joy Manufacturing, a Mason, a member of Methodist Men and McDonald?s Coffee Club and a World War II Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Merkle Armstrong; one great-grandson, Ryan Henke; and one great-great-grandchild, Avery Armstrong.

Survivors include five children, Oscar E. Armstrong Jr. of Lovelady, Texas, Myra Ann Neves and Bert Nelson Armstrong of Houston, Charles Keith Armstrong of Galena Park and Dena B. Rodriguez of Crosby, Texas; one sister, Frances Ellis of New Boston, Texas; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Carter Funeral Home. Graveside services will be noon Saturday at Avery Cemetery, Avery, Texas.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
