Born July 7, 1933, at home at 1114 N 17th St., Lafayette, he was the son of Philip Brettnacher and Lura Frances (Schilling) Brettnacher.
On Aug. 30, 1958, he married Patricia Ann Jones, and she survives.
He started his career at the Federal General Service Administration in Louisville, Ky. He retired from NSWC-Crane after 42 years of service. He also had a professional engineering license.
He was a graduate of Lafayette Jeff High School Class of 1951 and Purdue University Class of 1958, where he received a bachelor of science degree.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church of Bedford, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1166, for which he was a former Grand Knight.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Patricia; two sons, Jefferey Brettnacher and wife Ellen of Dallas and Barton Brettnacher of Bargersville; one daughter, Mary Cullather and husband Christopher of Beaumont, Texas; one sister, Ruth Ann Schaffer of Lafayette; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday in St. Boniface Cemetery in Lafayette.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home in Bedford with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
