He was born in Allegheny County, New York. Comeing to Streator at 31 years old, Milo Luther supervised laying of rails for a branch railroad line from Wenona to what was then Unionville. He established a coal company. His invention of a practical coal washer was probably his greatest contribution to the industrial prosperity of the community. Luther invested in coal mines and gold mines in all parts of the United States, and was able to acquire a large amount of wealth during his life. The fountain on the south side of the city park is in his memory.
