Mom was born in California and loved everything that California had to offer. She particularly loved the ocean. In her later years she retired to the beach at Oxnard Shores, CA where she took art classes and painted many ocean scenes.
Patsy was a beautiful child with blond hair and blue eyes. She was an excellent student and was gifted in the area of math. I don't know when she learned to play bridge but she excelled in that area as well as a student in college.
She visited her maternal grandparents, Ben and Alma Wahle, at least once a year who lived in Montana. They owned a large stock ranch. Mom was not fond of the outhouse and brushing her teeth in the stream that ran by the house. The Wahle's were a musical family and they sang and played the piano. Mom learned to play the piano and she played it well. I can still hear her playing the masters arrangements in the evenings.
Pat went to Immaculate Heart College before she married her first husband, Chuck Lamb. She was only married 10 days before he died of injuries suffered in a plane crash. She was heartbroken and told me she wanted to become a nun but they would not accept her as she was too distraught. She went on to work for the FBI during the war years and was a double for the pin-up girl, Betty Grable. I have a picture of Herbert Hoover which is autographed and signed to her.
Pat later went to USC and was there in 1946 as she met my dad early in the year and married him May 1, 1946 in Santa Barbara. They moved to Spokane, WA where my father owned a filling station and also went to Gonzaga University. They moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1948 so my father could pursue his schooling to become an Optometrist. They lived there until 1950 when dad graduated and in 1951 started his practice in Kansas City, Missouri. Dad worked in the same building as Harry Truman after his presidency. Dad was downstairs and Harry Truman was upstairs. 1960 brought them to Sunland, Los Angeles, California to run Janice Rae Sanitarium with dad's brother, Harvey. Mom taught school at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School.
In her spare time she loved the game of golf and won the women's La Canada Country Club championship. She and dad played courses all around the world. She played duplicate bridge on a weekly basis after retirement at Saticoy Country Club.
She loved the Lord and had a special place in her heart for, Mary, the Mother of God. She prayed often for a happy death and I believe she got her wish.
