Originally buried in the "Old National Cemetery at Fort Packering, Memphis, Tenn (Sec 1, Box 45)". The US Gov't opened the Memphis National Cemetery in 1866, in order to move the various soldier-burials to one location. There had been 11 "general hospitals" scattered around Memphis, and the gravesites needed to be consolidated. Our Nelson was moved to the Memphis National Cemetery, Section H, Site 4836. Fortunate that we know all this, because many (if not most) of the bodies were unmarked at the time of their removal.
Nelson left a widow, Sarah C. (Horin), from Brown County, Ohio. They didn't marry until he had enlisted (12 Jan 1862), and I don't know if there was a child. She claimed his pension, on his death, as Widow, Sarah C. Overy.
