Mary Doty Harris, age 94, of West Frankfort died at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004, at the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 7, at the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Pastor Charliam Renner officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Friday to the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Cemetery Association, the Trinity Methodist Church of West Frankfort or to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
She was born March 1, 1910, in Benton to William Edward Doty and Cora (Rice) Doty. She was a lifelong resident of Benton and West Frankfort, and was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church in West Frankfort.
She married Charles Homer Harris on July 27, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, Mo. and he preceded her in death on May 17, 1983.
Mary is survived by nieces, Marilyn Brewster Odaniell, Virginia Young Collyer, Helen Young Horner and Joan Young Hewitt and nephews, Richard Fields, Bill and George Sanders. Also there are several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by four sisters, Bonnie Young, Pauline Fields, Martha Sanders and Brossell Brewster, a brother, W. Troy Doty and three siblings who died in early childhood, also two nephews Troy E. Doty and Thomas R. Young II.
Prior to her husband death they owned and operated laundromats in West Frankfort.
