Harold, son of Aily and Pansy Workman Hicks, was born October 29, 1920 in Poweshiek County, Iowa, died, March 5, 1979 at his home in Montezuma. He was 58.
Harold attended the rural area schools. On November 1, 1939, married Irene Martin of Deep River. They were the parents of six children. He was engaged in farming and sheep shearing until 1969. He then did carpentry work until 1978.
Survivors include his wife, Irene; a son, Gary Hicks, Montezuma; five daughters, Mrs. Duane (Darlene) Steele, Joplin, Mo.; Mrs. Charles (Doris) Woodrum, Montezuma; Mrs. Sheldon (Donna) Gregson, Victor; Mrs. James (Vicki) Zigler, Brooklyn; and Mrs. Gary (Diana) Bru, Trenton, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; one greatgrandson; four sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Leona) Ochs, Deep River; Mrs. Harian (Maxine) Johannes, Montezuma; Mrs. Clyde (June) Eckhart, Battle Creek, Mich.; and Mrs. Madlyn Scott, Burlington, and a brother, Lloyd Covault, Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Howard.
Funeral services were held at 1:30pm Thursday, March 8 from Steffy Funeral Home, Montezuma. Rev. John Darlington officiated. Miss Alice Underwood was organist and accompanied Mrs. Edward Snook, soloist.
Casket bearers were Gary Pagel, Marvin Davis, Wesley Smith, Gerald Ochs, Stanley Ochs and David Baltimore. Interment was in Jackson township cemetery, Montezuma.
