DAVENPORT RITES AT MER ROUGE
Funeral services for C. C. "Tot" Davenport, 56, of Mer Rouge, who died Saturday at his home, were held at 5:30 pm Sunday at his residence. The Rev. Richard Cook officiated. Burial preceded by graveside military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, was held in Mer Rouge Cemetery. Blackwell-Golden Funeral Home was in charge of services.
Mr. Davenport was a Veteran of World War I and saw overseas duty. His father was the late Allen Hugo Davenport of Mer Rouge. A former postal worker and operator of a cotton gin at Mer Rouge, he was active until he became ill about a year ago. In 1924, he was married to the former Leonard Compton of Le Compte.

Mr. Tot Davenport was kidnapped at the same time as Watt Daniel and Fletcher Richard in 1922. Tot was released as it is believed he was mistaken for someone else. According to legend, Hugo Davenport was the intended victim.
