Obit: "Gilbert Allen dies in Elyria"
Gilbert Allen, 83, a resident of Montgomery county practically his entire life, died Thursday afternoon at the home of a daughter Mrs. John Parsch at Elyria Ohio with whom he was spending the winter.
A native of Bond county, Mr. Allen came to this community when a child. He had of late years resided in Coffeen with a daughter, Mrs. Stella Duncan, and four months ago when the Duncan family moved to Detroit, he left for a visit with the daughter in Ohio.
Six children survive him; Mrs. Parsch, Mrs. Stella Duncan, Detroit; Mrs. Lillian Philo, Minneapolis; Paul and Abel Allen, who reside in Washington; Mrs. Gertrude Barnett, Los Angeles, and Chassie also married and living in California. His wife died a number of years ago. A son, Louis Allen, died in Kansas four months ago and was brought to Litchfield for burial
Dr. L. G. Allen and his brothers, Claude and T. M. Allen of Litchfield; Joseph Allen of Los Angeles and his sister, Mrs. Eva Smith of Pittsburgh are cousins of the deceased, their fathers being brothers. They are also nephews by marriage, their mother's sister being the wife of the late Mr. Allen.
The funeral party arrived in Hillsboro by train Saturday noon and the body was brought to the Carroll & Sons funeral home here to await the funeral hour.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Pleasant Hill Church, north of Litchfield. Rev L A. Crown, pastor of the Union Avenue Christian church will be in charge and burial will be made in the Allen cemetery in the Pleasant Hill community.
Mrs. Parsch of Elyria and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Smith of Pittsburgh accompanied the remains to Litchfield. Mrs. Philo arrived from Minneapolis Friday afternoon to remain until after the funeral services.
