SSGT John William Braddy, USMC, 23 years old, died suddenly Saturday September 20, 2008 at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA.
Staff Sergeant Braddy was born on July 16, 1985 in Waycross, Georgia. He attended Pierce County High School and shortly after graduation he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps.
On August 4, 2003, he entered recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Then he went to Marine Combat Training and upon graduation, he attended three months of Basic Electronics Course at Marine Corps Communications-Electronics School in Twentynine Palms, California. He was then sent to his Military Occupational Specialty School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he became a 2887, Radar Technician.
Upon graduation, he reported to the 10th Marine Regiment, an artillery unit, where he worked in the Electronics Maintenance Platoon. Staff Sergeant Braddy then deployed with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion 10th Marine Regiment in March 2005 to Trebil, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In March of 2006, he deployed for the second time with Counter Battery Radar Platoon. Upon return, he was issued orders to attend the Micro-Miniature Automated Test Equipment Course at Marine Corps Communications-Electronics School. He returned to his unit, only to receive orders back to Twentynine Palms to serve as an instructor with the Communications-Electronics School.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bill and Marie Spikes.
Survivors include his wife, Jessica Stevens Braddy of Twentynine Palms, CA; his parents, Jeff Braddy, Sr. and Josephine Spikes Braddy of Blackshear; one brother, Jeff Braddy, Jr. (wife Crystal) of Augusta; one niece, Jenny Braddy; paternal grandparents, John and Frances Braddy of Waycross; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday September 30, 2008 at Central Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 9 p.m. Monday September 29, 2008, at Central Baptist Church.
