2013 - We are comfortable saying with about a 99.9% certainty that Gerd Lüken never legally/officially changed his name to George Luke. We checked with the county court house and were informed that in the early 20th century the only name that was ever changed was the surname. Not the first and/or middle name.

GEORGE L. HARMS, 83, died of hardening of the arteries of the brain at 8:35 a.m. Tuesday at his home in Rutland after having been ill since Saturday.
The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at the Rutland Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. C.E. Johnston. Burial will be in the Rutland cemetery.
George Luke Harms, son of Harm Gjardes and Ollie Zimerand Harms, was born Aug 20, 1856, at Sandhorst, Germany. In 1878, he came to this country and spent three years at the home of an uncle in Nebraska. In 1883 he moved to this vicinity. He married Miss Etta Ewen of Minonk, Feb. 5, 1885.
Surviving him are his widow; two sons and two daughters; Harm of Rutland, John of Benson, Mrs. Lewis Vinecore of Rutland and Mrs. Elsie Arndt of Vandalia. There are 25 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, Herman Harms of Sandhorst, Germany, Mrs. Almuth Karanberger of Assens, Germany and Bert (ACTUALLY WEERT.) Harms of Bruning, Neb.
Mr. Harms was a member of the Lutheran church.
