Egbertus Johannes Jansen died on Tuesday morning, March 19, at 4 o'clock, from heart failure. Mr. Jansen had started for church Sunday but did not feel well, so turned back. Monday he was all right apparently, and ate a hearty dinner. In the afternoon he attended the meeting of the consistory of the Reformed Church, of which he was a secretary, but became too ill that it was necessary to take hime hom. The attack of gall stone colic, from which he suffered later, caused heart failure. The funeral will be held this Saturday afternoon from the Reformed Church,of which he was so long a member. Rev. De Jong officiating.
Deceased was born in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, on August 1, 1844, and was therefore 73 years of age at the time of his death. He was married in the Netherlands to Miss JOhanna Marie Ter Maat on August 11, 1869. They came to America in 1872, first living in Chicago for six years, when they moved to Alton, settling on a farm where they lived a couple of years and then moving to Alton, where they have ever been respected citizens.
Mr. Jansen was a carpenter by trade and was well known to practically everyone in Sioux County. He had served on the school board, on the board of trustees and as a deacon and elder of the Reformed Church probably longer than any other man has ever served in these offices in the Alton church.
He is survived by his live partner and seven children, all of them doing well for themselves and respected by all. The children, in the order of their ages are as follows:
Mrs. H.W. Riedeman of Twin Falls, Idaho
Al of Steen, Minnesota
Mrs. Myron Mason of Alton
John E. Jansen, or Granville
Mrs. Jake Mason
H.W. Jansen of Alton
Ben of Kimberly, Idaho
Also by 25 grandchildren.
Mr. Jansen also leaved a host of friends who will keenly miss his counsel and leadership.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 from the house and at 2 o'clock from the church, by Rev. De Jong, in the Holland and English languages.
