George H. Smith, 49, died last evening at his farm home six miles east of this city on highway 17 after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the John P. Hickey funeral home. The Rev. Edward Petrusson of the Danish Lutheran church will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Chebanse. The funeral will occur on Smith's 25th wedding anniversary. The deceased is survived by his widow Myrtle and nine children – Mrs. Fred Davis; Raymond; John; Doris; Pauline; Kenneth; Marian; Jeanette and Clara; all of Kankakee. He leaves three brothers – Henry and Will of Omaha and Peter of Cicero; one sister, Mrs. Claude Goodrich of Kankakee. -Kankakee Republican News, Thursday, September 5, 1935.
