THOMAS E. BIRKELAND, 66, died Wednesday, October 21, 1992 at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Thomas E. Birkeland was born November 15, 1925 in Vienna Township, Rock County, Minnesota, the son of John O. and Anna (Aagedal) Birkeland. He received his education in country school in Vienna Township; and was received into the Christian Faith through Baptism and Confirmation at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Luverne, MN.

Thomas was united in marriage to Marion Lucille Scott on February 24, 1946 at Luverne, MN. They lived at Hardwick, MN; Minneapolis, MN – where he was employed with Minneapolis Moline; Windom, MN where he was employed with Thompson Lands; and in 1954 they moved back to Rock County where they have farmed.

He was a member of the Blue Mound Lutheran Church in Rural Luverne, MN until it closed and then became a member of Kenneth Lutheran Church in Kenneth, MN. He served on the Vienna Township Board for over 20 years, and was active in the fellowship of A.A. for 31 years.

Thomas is survived by his wife: Marion; four daughters: Mrs. Gary (Rebecca) Herreid of Chaska, MN, Mrs. Dennis (Connie) Lange of Pipestone, MN, Mrs. Randy (Victoria) Smook of Luverne, MN, Mrs. Jacob (Terri) Bruynes of Luverne, MN; Seven grandchildren: Mike Herreid, Sherre Herreid, Aaron Lange, Rebecca Smook, Jodie Smook, Jacob Bruynes and Caleb Bruynes; One brother: Henry Berkeland of Willow Lake, SD; Three sisters: Mrs. Margaret Skorr of Sherman, SD, Mrs. Borghild Remme of Luverne, MN, and Mrs. Wallace (Jenny) Suhl of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother; Oswald Birkeland.

Honorary Casketbearers: Bill Galagan, Alfred Henrichs, Ervin Bergman, Bud Clark, Chuck VandeVelde, Emmanuel Wolf.

Visitation: Friday, October 23, 1992 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. in the Holm Funeral Home, Luverne, MN, with family present from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Visitation will also be one hour before services in the church on Saturday.
