This was my cousin Michael, son of my maternal aunt, Beverly Evans. I didn't know Michael very well, as he was eight years older than I was, and wasn't around very much.
What little I do know about him is that he tried to rob a man at knifepoint at the Pourhouse Tavern in Springfield, Oregon, and the would-be victim pulled out a gun and shot Michael, who died shortly thereafter.
While I do not blame the man who shot my cousin (after all, Michael did attack him first!), I do find it hard to think him a good man, as he went into the store where my aunt worked as a cashier and started bragging about the killing (not knowing that the mother of his victim was there). Aunt Beverly had to ring up the purchases of the man who killed her son, and you can bet that wasn't easy for her.
