Virginia Maude Peters was born on April 23, 1913, in Stanton, Nebraska, the second child of Dr. W. R. and Maude E. (Tannehill) Peters.
She graduated from Stanton High School and continued her education at Doane College in Crete, Nebraska, graduating in 1934. Following college she taught grade school, beginning her career in Shelton, Nebraska. She later taught in Cozad and then served as superintendent of Archer High School from 1942 to 1948. She was united in marriage to William Warren Marsh on August 24, 1941, in Lincoln. After a year of teaching at the University of Nebraska, the couple moved back to Archer, where they were engaged in farming and ranching for the next 40 years. In 1981, they retired and moved to Central City.
Virginia was a theater major in college. In "A Midsummer Nights Dream," she made her dramatic entrance as Puck by swinging onto the stage on a vine-covered gym rope suspended from the ceiling. She later enjoyed presenting humorous readings and other skits for various clubs and church groups. She enjoyed tending to her large and sometimes unmanageable garden, supplying her friends with bushels of tomatoes, beans, strawberries, raspberries, carrots and beets. She traveled much of the world, and although the destinations were not always her first choice, she visited Europe, South and Central America, the Caribbean, the South Pacific, Australia and New Zealand. Her greatest joy was found at home visiting with her grandchildren.
Virginia was a 60-year member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She sang in the church choir for 30 years and played in the bell choir for another 20 years. She was also very active in United Methodist Women and served as its district treasurer for many years. She departed this life on Monday, October 13, 2008, at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Mrs. Marsh is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. William and Ann Marsh; a grandson, Alex Marsh; and a granddaughter, Sarah Marsh. Her parents, her husband and her brother, Robert Peters of Miami, Fla., preceded her in death
