Claude William Burns, Sr., 84, of 23598 Mountain Valley Road, Millboro lost his courageous battle with cancer Friday, September 15, 2006.
Born October 19, 1921 on Cheat Mountain in Randolph County, WV he was a son of the late Lonnie Burns and Margaret George Williams.
He served in the Army during World War II, as a Military Policeman, a Special Vehicle Operator and a Construction Machine Operator. He retired after many years as a heavy equipment operator. A member of the VFW and Disabled American Veterans he was also an avid outdoorsman and gardener.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Burns; grandchildren, Noel Plecker and Wyatt Burns; and a son-in-law Ronnie McMullen.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Virginia Lucille Burns; two sons, C.W. Burns, Jr. and wife Dreama of Millboro, Cyrus Samuel "Sam" Burns and wife Karen of Covington; three daughters, Carolyn Leigh McMullen of Hot Springs, Claudia Jo Terry and husband Walter of Raphine, Elizabeth Ann Stewart and husband Larry of Craigsville; one brother, Fred Burns, Sr. of Marlinton, WV; one sister, Virginia Ross of Clifton Forge; eight grandchildren, William Lee Burns, Suzanna Shanks, Chris Burns, Sammy Burns, Sarah Plecker, Julie Dean, Michael McMullen and Troy Meyerhoeffer; four great grandchildren, Brooklyn Burns, Karleigh McMullen, Mikayla McMullen and Austin Dean; one step granddaughter, Heather Carter; a number of nieces and nephews; and many special friends including Matthew Tyler.
