Served three years in the Civil War. He married Elizabeth Buckles (b. Ill.) and they were the parents of A. E., Mrs. Winnie M. Sanger and Mrs. K. M. Ray. He lived for a time on a farm near Soldier, Jackson Co., KS. he studied medicine and completed his course in a St. Louis medical school. He went to Spring Garden, Ill., where he opened an office and engaged in general practice for several years. Following that he moved to Carmi, Ill. In 1893 he came to Oklahoma City, where he followed his profession until 1900, when he retired.
