Mary Margaret (Cota) Agundes was born on June 17, 1925 in El Cajon, CA; her parents were Maria and Gonzalo Cota. She was raised in Johnstown and attended Grossmont High School. There were 10 children in her family, 7 girls and 3 boys.

Margaret worked at Consolidated San Diego during World War II; making aircraft for the war. The planes she worked on were PBY's or otherwise known as the Catalinas. She and her sister, Antonia lived in San Diego with an Aunt. There, she met Fred Agundes and fell in love. They married on June, 20, 1948. Fred was serving his country in the Navy for World War II. He was also in the Korean War.

They had 10 children, but lost a set of twins, due to being premature in 1950. Margaret always wanted to have another set of twins, and did with her last children; a set of girls. She was a stay at home mom and took care of her children. In 1977, Margaret volunteered in the ESL program at El Cajon Valley High School. She was soon hired for the job of teaching English to students from other countries. It was a perfect job for her, after raising her children. Her students loved her and called her, "Mrs. A". She retired in 1990 and looked after a few of her grandchildren in El Cajon. Margaret and Fred were retired and enjoyed their grandchildren immensely. Fred nicknamed his grandchildren, as he did to his own children. Fred passed away in 2001.
