He was born Feb. 26, 1923, in the town of Ripley/Volusia, the son of Albert ''Lee'' and Elizabeth Reid Bowen.A Westfield resident most his life, he was a veteran of the Marine Corps, serving during World War II, and obtained the rank of private first class. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Lillie Bowen of Westfield, whom he married Sept. 12, 1943; a son, Edward Merrell Bowen of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren: Linda L. Fox of Westfield, Janet Lou Drake of Euless, Texas, and Judith Ann Marsh of Westfield; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Vivan Jordan of Santa Maria, Calif., and Rea Rolando of Santa Maria.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Barbara Ann Brooker; a brother, Russell Bowen; and a sister, Ruth Moore.
