Charlotte "Johnnie" Treadwell
Memorial service for Charlotte "Johnnie" Treadwell, 87, Lawton, will be 10 a.m. Thursday at New Post Chapel, Fort Sill, with Rev. Davison Virgil officiating.

Mrs. Treadwell died July 7, 2008, in Lawton.

Burial will be at the Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.

She was born July 22, 1920, in Indianapolis to Louis and Mamie Johnson. She was raised in Mooresville, Ind., and Indianapolis. where she graduated from high school and nursing school. After graduation, she joined the Army Nurse Corps and served in Europe during World War II. While in Europe, she took part in the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp. She met Jack Lemaster Treadwell in Europe and after leaving the Army, she married him on June 20, 1946, in Snyder. She was a military wife for 32 years, until his retirement. She served on the PTA boards at several different schools, volunteered as a Red Cross instructor in life saving courses and also with the Girl Scouts.

She is survived by three daughters: Whittie Rianwater and husband, Roy, Lawton; Debbie Floris and husband, John, Manassas, Va.: and Tracee Treadwell and partner Denise Jamieson, Atlanta; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Jerry Hites; and nephew, John Gibbs.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her name to the Center for Creative Living, 3501 SW Elsie Hamm Dr. Lawton 73505.
