Born in Hammond, IN, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Fanny (Nist) Kirker.
Ava graduated from the Columbia (PA) High School. In addition to being a homemaker, she was an executive secretary at the former Sperry New Holland and was the bookkeeper for the former Irons Food Store, New Holland.
She was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church, New Holland, where she had formerly been a Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed writing Christian poetry and knitted mittens and caps for charity. She also loved baseball, football, and a highlight was traveling to see her grandsons play.
Surviving are four children: Robert N., Jr. of Santa Monica, CA; Judy A. married to Richard Musser, Parkton, MD; Mary Shelly-Weaver married to Lee Weaver, Lititz; and Ruthie married to Don McIlvenna, Lititz; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 3, at 11 a.m. at Evangelical United Methodist Church, 276 W. Main St., New Holland with Pastor Eric Ritz officiating. Interment will be in St. Stephen U. C. C. Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements. (Lancaster Newspapers, 9/30/2008)
