Robert J. Keller Jr. of Sweet Home, died following more than six years of battling cancer.
He was born to Robert J. Keller Sr. and Roseline H. Keller.
His family moved to Vallejo, Calif., where he spent much of his elementary and all of his teenage years. He graduated from San Francisco State University with a degree in education.
His first year of teaching was in Concord, Calif., and it was during his second year teaching that he met his wife of 41 years, Judy J. McGowan.
After three years in Concord they taught a year in Cave Junction. That changed when Robert was drafted into the Army in 1969. He served as a squad leader and platoon sergeant at AIT. He served as a Military Policeman in Germany at Rhein Main Air Force Base. When Robert and Judy returned to the states in 1971 following his honorable discharge from the Army, they settled in Sweet Home.
Robert began what would be a long, rewarding teaching career in the Sweet Home School District. He retired in 1999.
When not busy with lesson plans and chess clubs, Robert also took time to farm the cherry orchards that Judy's father and mother passed on to them in 1974.
As important as any work was Robert's faith. He was a member of the Sweet Home Evangelical Church.
He was an avid reader and storyteller. Following his retirement they traveled extensively in spite of his diagnosis with multiple myeloma in 2002.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; daughters, Heide Nichol of Sweet Home, Holly Vietor of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Heather Stockamp of Corvallis; mother, Roseline Keller of Longview, Wash,; sister, Julie McBride of Vancouver, Wash.; brother, John Keller of Concrete, Wash.; and six grandchildren.
