David T. Yeakel (1818-1890, buried in Greenbush Cemetery) placed an ad in an early Lafayette paper listing himself as Physician and Surgeon with an office on Illinois Street, three doors north of the public square. He was a member of the first county medical society from 1847-48. There is a sketch of him in the 1878 Atlas on page 41. Poor receipts held in the collection of Tippecanoe County Historical Association put him in Lafayette from 1849 to 1889. He was practicing during the 1849 cholera epidemic and tended Confederate prisoners in Lafayette during the Civil War. He was well-known as a skilled surgeon.
