Edwin shares a marker with his wife Emily Nancy (Treat) BRAYTON and her stepmother Lydia M. (Roy) TREAT
FROM: Recollections of Alvin Brayton:
Edwin Brayton came to California by prairie schooner in 1859, 10 years after his marriage to Emily Treat. She came, with family, around Cape Horn. The family moved to El Cajon, in San Diego County, in 1882 to farm. Edwin was a farmer and contracted redwood ties for the railroads. He always seemed to have money. While in Navarro Ridge, California, Edwin received a message from his brother, Jones Lincoln Brayton, that he had struck it rich. Edwin went by boat to Washington, and by horse to the Snake River, where he found Jones, but no fortune! Jones and two others had formed a mining company. Jones was killed on the Snake River, Washington Territory, by Indians on March 3, 1863 while protecting their supplies. His partners found him on their return. Edwin is said to have stood guard over Joaquin Murrietta when captured at Jackson. The Brayton family children went to school with the Rushing family children in Navarro Ridge, California.
