Nobility, Cardinal, son of Calais governor Antoine de La Grange d'Arquien and his third wife Anne d'Ancienville. He entered a military career and was captain of the cavalry regiment of Gaston de Orléans. After fighting in Flanders, he was promoted to field marshal in July 1652. His two wives bore him seven children, but only two girls, Louise Marie (married the Count of Bethune) and Marie Casimire, survived to adulthood. With the support of his daughter, the Queen of Poland, he was created cardinal-deacon in 1695 and participated in the conclave of 1700. He died without being ordained.
