As I understand it, the State of Ohio applied for the military tombstones of many Ohio veterans, and I believe they unintentually put the wrong information on this stone. This tombstone says "Pvt. Ohio Infantry Company K." Military records show that John Hill of Company K was only 21 years old when he enlisted on 9 June 1846. He must have been born about 1825, which does not match the birthdate of John Hill who is buried in the Old Disciples Cemetery.

It is far more likely that John Hill (whose tombstone appears above) was the John Hill described in military records as born in 1821 in "New Lisbon", Columbiana County, Ohio. He enlisted in the regular U.S. Army on 28 Apr 1845 at Newport Barracks, served in the Mexican War as a Private, was severely wounded in the Battle of Monterrey on 21 Sep 1846, and was discharged on 04 Apr 1847 at Jefferson Barracks. John Hill was my third great-grandfather. Please feel free to use this photo for any family tree purpose.
