Archie W. Dunham, 84, of Van Buren died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, in a local hospital. He was a brick laborer, former Van Buren city fireman badge No. 7, an Army veteran of World War II as a combat medic and retired assistant chief of Butterfield Volunteer Fire Department District 5. He was twice awarded volunteer fireman of the year, Butterfield District, and received the Arkansas Governor's Award for volunteerism by Gov. Mike Huckabee and outstanding Security Guard of the Year nationwide by Burns Security.Archie loved hunting & fishing with his family,always teaching them a way to hook a big one! He was the widower of Clara Sue Ray Dunham. They were married 49 yrs 11 mo. 2 weeks shy of their 50th anniversary,They had recieved a congratulations from President Clinton that was framed & proudly displayed.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial and Fire Department honors at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Helmer and husband Mike, Doris Rogers and husband Albert and Christine Wright and husband Brian, all of Van Buren; three sons, Artie Dunham and wife Dana Jan, both of Dayton, Texas, Dewey Dunham and wife Janice and Kenny Dunham and wife Tammy all of Van Buren; one aunt, Dorothy Spangler of Ceres, Calif.; one stepsister, Norma Jean Culpit of Morrilton; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the Fire Department.

Honorary pallbearers will be current and former members of Butterfield District 5 Fire Department, grandsons and Lois Harris.

The family will visit with friends Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ocker Memorial Chapel, 700 Jefferson St., Van Buren.
