Gertrude Briggs, 96, departed this life Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at Heritage Hall of Charlottesville, Virginia.
She was born in Nelson County on July 15, 1912. She was the daughter of the late Landon and Daily Johnson Rucker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Briggs; one son, Melvin Briggs; one sister, Hattie Ross; and one brother, Landon Rucker Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted family; two daughters, Thelma Jordan, and Vannet Smith; four sons, Lloyd Briggs, John Briggs, James Briggs, and Fred Briggs; seven grand-children; eight great-grand-children; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Thomas and Julia Garrett; one devoted niece, Gladys Smith; and two nephews, Wayne and Ralf Briggs; and a host of other beloved relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, September 21, 2008, at New Mount Baptist Church in Arrington, Virginia, with the Reverend Allen Pannell officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
