Robert was born outside of Center, Shelby County, Texas in the Grigsby Community. R.W. was the son of Arlington and Jessie Bridges Wheeler. At seventeen, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in South Dakota and Guam. He was a retired bookkeeper from Monsanto in Texas City. He was married for 35 years to Margie Nell (Holmes) Wheeler and had three children: David Wayne, Donna Lea, and Tina Ann. He died 22 February 1995 in Houston. A memorial service was held at First Baptist Church in Groveton, TX on 24 February 1995.
