APALACHICOLA - Winona "Nonie" Tucker Barber, 88, died Saturday, July 29, 2006, at Weems Memorial Hospital. The service will be at 3 p.m. EDT Tuesday at Kelley Funeral Home (850-653-2208), 149 Avenue H, Apalachicola. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT today at the funeral home. She was a native of Apalachicola and resided in Apalachicola her entire life. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star serving as worthy matron of the order for many terms. She was also a member of Magnolia Baptist Church. She worked with the Cancer Society for numerous years and the food bank OEC for 12 years, sewed in the tent factory during World War II for the Army and cared for a large number of children for more than 45 years. She became more affectionately known to them as "Aunt Nonie." She lived a lifetime of devotion to her family. Her survivors include two sons, Elton Barber (and Janice) and Robert Barber (and Denise); three daughters, Gynelle Bush (and Joe), Joyce Moore (and David) and Jean Roberts (and Ralph); a sister, Ouida Cumbie; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren; and devoted friends, Clifford and Laurilee Sutton. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Carrie Tucker; a sister, Eva Rhine; the father of her children, John Barber; and a granddaughter, Shannon Roberts.
