Rita M. Bruyere was born July 11, 1934, in Ogdensburg, daughter of Alfred and Grace Williams Sovie. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and attended Ogdensburg Business School.
She married S. Robert Bruyere on Aug. 9, 1952, at Notre Dame Church with Monsignor A.D. Charbonneau officiating.
Mrs. Bruyere had taught at the Ogdensburg Business School for a time, worked for McCadam Cheese, then was an administrative assistant for the Diocese of Ogdensburg chancery for a few years before helping her husband run the family plumbing and heating business from 1971 to 2003.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral parish for many years and enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking, needlepoint, cross-stitch and gardening.
