GEORGE CLAIR ALDEN was the son of AMBER ELIZA JOLES and CHARLES ALDEN. CHARLES was a steamboat captain on the Columbia River from the family home in The Dalles, a river town east of Portland, OR.

GEORGE served in World War I in France, enlisting at age 18, though whether with his father's permission or by lying about his age is unknown. In the 1920s he served in the National Guard in Oregon. He earned a Silver Star (the WW I equivalent which was later converted to the present day medal) and was a member of the Theodore Roosevelt Post 21 of the American Legion. The complete service records of many men who served in that war no longer exist due to the fire in the archives in St. Louis, MO in 1973.

In 1922 he married THELMA CLAUDIA BENTLEY and they had three children. They lived for some years in Portland, OR before moving to southern CA, and later to Santa Rosa, CA. GEORGE was a building inspector and sold insurance after the war. He and THELMA lived in Sonoma Co. from 1954 until his death.

Their known children:

1) John Alden b. 1925 D. 1942.

2) Priscilla Alden Aceves b. 1927 D. 2007.

3) Joan Clair Alden Hawkins b. 31 Oct 1930 D. March 1986.

GEORGE, THELMA, and their daughters JOAN and PATRICIA are all buried at Santa Rosa Memorial Park. Burial place of their son JOHN MILO ALDEN is in the Lincoln Memorial Park. Plot: Mausoleum - Iris Corridor in Portland, OR.
