JoAnn Callahan, 67, of Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, in a local nursing facility.
She was born in Phenix City, Ala., to Harvey and Bessie Shirley. She moved to Panama City in 1969 from Cincinnati and worked as a store manager for Watford Food Mart/Sunshine Jr. Foods for 17 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Debbie J. Wendel; three sons, David P. Wendel and wife, Carla, Bret P. Wendel and Joseph E. Callahan and wife, Shawna; six grandchildren, Aerial Callahan, Ashley Wendel, Kale Callahan, all of Panama City, and Phillip Wendel, Christian Wendel and Bobby Wendel, all of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Cecil H. Edwards of Panama City; one niece, Tammy Adams; and one nephew, Rory Adams, both of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Bessey Shirley; son, Terry Wendel; and two sisters, Shirley Edwards and Juliett Shirley Zacherl.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 28, 2008, at the Heritage Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at the Heritage Funeral Home chapel with Chaplain Virgil Tillman officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Justin Kent, Ralph Visco, R.J. Visco, Danny Hill, Chris Hill and Brad Garner. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Amin Abdelghany, Dr. Bussie Evans, Dr. Timothy Moriarty, Dr. "Bud" Shuler and all staff members of St. Andrews Health & Rehab.
