Obituary.....Mrs. Deborah Jane Hewlett Sherfield Bess.....Graveside services for Mrs. Deborah Jane Hewlett Sherfield Bess, 38, of Richland Road, who died at home Tuesday, 19 August, will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, with Don Castleman officiating. She will be at Woodfin Memorial Chapel until service time. She is survived by her husband, Jewel Moses Bess; her mother, Wilma Jean Hewlett of Murfreesboro; four daughters, Stacy, Jamie, Jewel and Madesta Sherfield of Murfreesboro; a son, Rodney Sherfield Jr. of Murfreesboro; and three step-sons, Joseph, Jeremy and Jeffery Bess of Murfreesboro. THE MURFREESBORO POST Posted: Monday, March 26, 2012 11:32 am......A man convicted of child rape in 1998 is now looking at a murder charge for his wife's 1986 death. A Rutherford County Grand Jury indicted Moses Bess, 63, earlier this month in the death of his wife Deborah Sherfield Bess, 38, of Richland Road, who died of a gunshot wound Aug. 19, 1986 at her home, said Rutherford County Sheriff's Lt. Bill Sharp of the Cold Case Unit. Investigators at the time ruled her death a suicide.
