America was the daughter of William A. and Polly Bingham. She married William Avery Pounds about 1839 in Chickasaw Co., MS. They became parents of eight daughters and six sons, including one set of twin sons born about 1842. America and William Avery lost both twin sons in the Civil War, William in Reseca, GA in 1864, and Blevin West in Centerville, VA in 1861.
Their children are: Sarah Elinore [Walker], William (twin), Blevin West (twin), Benjamin William, Sylvanus Hunter, Frances Adeline [Walker], Pearlina [Tabb], Mary Elizabeth [Hill], John, Virginia "Jennie" [Hill], Connie, Emma Jane [Springer], Avery Starling and Eugenia Barzella [Hill].
