Joseph N. Armano was born June 2, 1946, in Ogdensburg, son of Nicholas J. and Geraldine Spooner Armano. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1964 and attended Canton Agricultural and Technical College. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the Army. In 1982, he received a bachelor's degree from Empire State College.
He married Rita E. Dowe on March 8, 1969, at Notre Dame Church with the Rev. Paul T. Joly officiating.
Mr. Armano was president of Custom Hoists, Mansfield, and had lived in that area for the past seven years. He had also been a sales manager for Dynapower, a division of General Signal Corp., Watertown, and a designer for New York Air Brake Co., Watertown.
He became president of New York Air Brake Management Club in 1975. He enjoyed boating.
